The Art of Textile beyond Boundaries
Shipka 6, UBA, 1А
The authors were called to interpret the number of 21. This corresponds – to a degree – with the year 2021, when the exhibition was first scheduled to take place before the Covid pandemic wiped out the exhibition plans of the UBA and the event had to be rescheduled for 2022. Yet, it is possible to look for other meanings of the number. A sign, some mental association with a work of literature, a movie, mathematical expression, a weave.
Contemporary art uses all sorts of materials and techniques. Artists often apply these in most unexpected ways to best construct their narrative and achieve their intended impact. Artists who work in textile, the connoisseurs, have been exploring new applications of familiar materials, while colleagues of other visual genres were rediscovering the rich opportunities of textile.
